Scores of Casual Labourers of Jammu Kashmir Tourism Department were detained when police charged them with canes outside SKICC where they held a protest at a time when top government functionaries and Ministers were busy in Board Meeting at the Convention Centre. The protesting Casual Labourers were demanding release of salaries and their regularization at earliest.Carrying placards in their hands, protesters appealed Finance Minister to regularize the casual laborers and release their salaries “which they have not been receiving from past three years.”The protesting Casual Labourers tried to enter into the SKICC however, police foiled their attempt and detained scores of them. Casual Labourers were accompanied by their wards as well who also participated in the protest.“Government had promised us that we will be regularized. However, that provided a lip service only. Besides we have been deprived of our salaries and even our Biometrics have not been sent to Civil Secretariat,” Mir Sarwar Hussain told CNS.The protesters said that they will intensify the protest in case their demands are not fulfilled.
