Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh today asked the medical fraternity to popularize the Ayush-Ayurved, Yoga, Unani, Sidha, Naturopathy and Homeopathy as an alternative system of medicine to the much publicised Allopathic system by creating awareness amongst the masses at grass roots level in view of its time tested credibility and affordability.Addressing a public gathering at the launch of four day Arogya Mela, jointly organised by the GoI and State Ayush Department in collaboration of FICCI, the Chief Minister said that the Ayush system especially Ayurveda had comparatively lesser side effects than allopathy and was also cost effective. He emphasised the need to intensify efforts for undertaking research in the Ayurveda so that complicated diseases like Cancer, Hepatitis and Cardiac ailments could also be effectively cured. Appreciating the efforts of the State Ayush Department to hold this Medical Camp-cum-exhibition, Mr. Badal asked the doctors to ensure proper follow up in the cases of patients who were diagnosed with serious ailments. He said the state government had already held two mega medial camps at village Badal in Muktsar district and Mansa where 19000 and 27000 patients were medically checked up and given suitable treatment besides medicines free of cost. He said since Health and Education were the core sectors for the development of any state or country, therefore the SAD-BJP alliance government had focused all its attention to develop these sectors by allocating maximum funds. He assured the Health & Family Welfare Minister that the State Government would leave no stone unturned to promote Ayush system of medicine in the state as the health of citizens of all age groups was the primary concern. On the occasion, the Chief Minister asked the Cabinet Minister and the local MLA Mr. Mittal to prepare a blue print for the overall development of Sri Anandpur Sahib and assured that the paucity of funds would not be allowed to hamper the progress of this holy town. He also deputed the SDM Sri Anandpur Sahib as a nodal officer to get the development works executed in the village Kalyanpur in the Kiratpur Sahib block as demanded by the local panchayat. Responding to another demand put forth by Mr. Mittal for channelization of Swan Rivulet, the Chief Minister assured that he would soon get the comprehensive proposal finalised from the Drainage department so that the work could be started on the project at the earliest to save the local residents and their property from the fury of floods.Speaking on the occasion, the Health & Family Welfare Minister Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal said that all out efforts were made to upgrade the infrastructure in all health institutions across the state in order to provide the best diagnostic and health care facilities to the people from all sections of the society especially the rural folk. He said after Faridkot district a vigorous campaign was being launched by the Health Department to detect the Cancer cases across the state from December 1 to 31, 2012. Earlier, Mr. Badal inaugurated the Arogya Mela by lighting the lamp. On the occasion, Mr. Mittal visited the various stalls put up the Ayurvedics and Naturopathy companies besides interacting with doctors and patients.Prominent among others who were present included MLA Ropar Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare Mrs. Vinni Mahajan, Commissioner Ayush Department Punjab Mr. Raj Kamal Chaudary, Director Ayush Dr. Rakesh Sharma besides senior functionaries of Department of Ayush, GoI.
