In continuation with the special drive to stop the sale of tobacco products without having pictorial health warning on the package as mandated under the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003, a team of Food Safety Officers of Drugs and Food Control Organization under the overall supervision of Assistant Controller Food, Municipal Limits Jammu conducted surprise raid on the vendors at Panjthirthi, Kachi Chawni, Ambphalla and Warehouse areas dealing in sale of tobacco products. During inspection M/S Mahajan Departmental Store, Opposite Dewana Mandir, Pacca Danga, Jammu and M/S Eshan General Store, Warehouse, Jammu were found indulging in selling of cigarettes without specific health warning, pictorial depiction as mandated under section 7 of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
A total number of 753 packets of cigarettes under the trade name of Ruili River (730), Dunhill (8), Black (5) Camel (4), More (2) and Garam Gudang (4) were seized on spot for further legal action against the defaulters as warranted under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.Sale of tobacco products without specific health warning, pictorial depiction is a punishable offence, all the vendors dealing in cigarettes and other tobacco products are advised not to purchase or sell the cigarettes and other tobacco products without bearing specific health warning failing which, action as warranted under law shall be initiated against the defaulters.
