Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon convened a meeting to discuss the arrangements for organizing one day workshop on Pradhan Mantri Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) to be held at Government College for Women, Gandhinagar Jammu on 8th February.The workshop aims to sensitize the stakeholders about PMSSS under which AICTE provides scholarships to the students of J&K pursuing graduation level technical /professional/general courses in different Technical and Professional colleges of the country.Pertinent to mention that the Scheme provides scholarship to the students whose annual family income is upto Rs 6.00 lakh. Scheme is a special incentive for capacity building of the youth that would be granted purely on Merit to 3500 students from the state. The scheme was started in the state in 2011and 10000 students have availed the benefit of the scheme till now.During the meeting, Commissioner Secretary directed the concerned officer of Hospitality and Protocol to make suitable arrangements for accommodation of the visiting dignitaries and other resource persons attending the workshop whereas State Motor Garages department was directed to ensure adequate transport arrangements. Besides the meeting also discussed in detail security and publicity related arrangements for the workshop. The meeting among others was attended by Director State Motor Garages, Special Secretary Higher Education, Joint Director Information, Nodal Officer and other Principals of colleges.
