Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar today said the present dispensation is working relentlessly to make the students self-reliant and empower them so that after leaving the college, they become jobs givers instead of job seekers.The Minister was speaking after inaugurating Red Cross Mela at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar here.“Red Cross is a noble mission and involvement of students in this cause will definitely give them a learning experience,” the Minister said, adding that confectionary, floral art and craft displayed by the students is of unmatched quality.Applauding the college authorities for organizing Red Cross Mela, the Minister said the government will make such kind of programmes a regular feature of education system so that students can hone their skills and utilize them for prospering in their careers.

He further said the government will do handholding of these students until they achieve their dreams. Opening new avenues of growth and employment for these students is the main focus of the present dispensation, he added.Besides witnessing the cultural programme being presented by the college students, the Minister also visited various awareness stalls displayed by different government departments and college administration for creating awareness among the masses about environment conservation, civil defense, heritage and culture of the State. A blood donation camp was also organized during the Mela.While interacting with the students, the Minister asked them to gain as much knowledge as they can and work for the betterment of the society. He asked them to focus on becoming entrepreneurs and play their role in uplifting the weaker sections of the society.Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal GCW, Gandhi Nagar Dr Kiran Bakshi, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu RC Puri and staff members of the college were present in the Mela.
