President, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Dr G M Mir Friday showed serious concern over a recent press release in an English daily about a “Drug Alert Notice” by the Office of the Controller Drug and Food Control Organization J&K – Jammu for the drugs”Acelofenac-100mg” and “Ceftriazone-1 gm” which is being supplied by J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited(JKMSCL).

In a statement to CNS, the DAK chairperson said, “It is pertinent to mention that recently drugs namely, Amoxycillin capsules (500 mg) and Ceftriazone Injection (1 gm) had  been declared “Not of Standard Quality” by Government Analyst, Combined Food & Drug(J&K)Jammu vide no.CFDL/J/2016-17/1179,dated 23/01/2017.”He said, It is worthwhile to mention here that drugs used for diabetes namely Metformin and Glimperide were also recently found to be of substandard quality.

He said DAK has always been opposing this move by government about prescribing Generic Drugs by the Doctors which are supplied by JKMSCL, who seem to be procuring drugs from some bogus companies.Dr Masood Rashid, Senior Executive Member of DAK blamed the JKMSCL for these types of blunders and further said these kind of lapses on their part decreases the trust by the patients towards doctors as they have been ordered by the authorities to prescribe only the generic drugs available in the hospital supply.

Dr Mir Waseem, another Executive Member of the DAK expressed surprise over the Civil Society Members and media personals that how come they have ignored this news of vital importance in which the poor patients are at the receiving end.Dr Mir Mushtaq, Spokesperson, DAK stated that usually in normal procedures the drugs pass through the rigorous quality control measures and then only are supplied, but here in our hapless state of J& K it seems to be other way round .He once again appealed the Hon’ble Health Minister, Bali Bhagat to take the matter very seriously and on priority basis so that poor patients don’t have to suffer unnecessarily.

DAK appealed doctors to carefully use these drugs and ensure that analytical reports of these drugs have been received by the Heads of the Departments before they are being used at hospitals.DAK further appeals Media fraternity, Civil Society members to raise their voice against this grave issue of public importance.
