Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today attained major boost in its poll campaign in Punjab assembly as a plane full of NRI supporters with ‘FLAME OF HOPE’, landed at Amritsar Airport, where they were welcomed by entire senior leadership of Aam Aadmi Party. Enthusiastic NRIs were received at Airport by Incharge of party’s affairs in Punjab, Sanjay Singh, State Convener of AAP Gurpreet Singh Waraich and Co-Convener Jarnail Singh apart from other senior leaders Preeti Sharma Menon, Dr Sarika Verma, Surinder Mavi, Rajesh Sharma and Joban Randhawa. Cladding in the white T-shirts of AAP, all NRIs first visited Golden Temple where they paid obeisance before reaching Majitha to hold massive political meeting on the ground of one of the big battle of ballot in Punjab.
NRIs were so enthusiastic to campaign for AAP, instead of taking rest they pressed to begin campaign immediately and accordingly some teams of them were made, which headed for the campaign in different constituencies in the specially designed “Chalo Punjab” bus, said Dr Sarika Verma, Joint Secretary of AAP, who is handing the NRIs volunteers management said.
AAP overseas supporters conducted Road Show cum Door-to-Door campaign for AAP candidate Himmat Singh Shergil at Majitha, erstwhile known as citadel of Bikram Singh Majithia, who is allegedly involved in the multi-crore drug racket, AAP leaders said. One of the team went to Chabbewal constituency, where they campaigned for full day and both NRIs and constituents were seen amused by witnessing the special campaign, perhaps first time in Punjab. Even some of the teams directly headed to the constituencies of Barnala and Mansa and Bathinda to join the campaign of AAP candidates. In the days to come and extensive campaign by NRI supporters would be launched as hundreds of more NRIs are expected to land in Punjab soon, Dr Sarika added.“Chalo Punjab movement has proven to be the X-Factor for AAP in 2017 elections, she said while condemned PPCC Chief Captain Amarinder Singh and SAD Leader Harsimrat Kaur for terming NRIs as ‘terrorists”.
