Several members took part in the discussion on Demands of Grants for Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Floriculture and Cooperatives Departments in Legislative Assembly today.Javid Hassan Baig while initiating the discussion, called for development of infrastructure in the horticulture sector besides introducing latest technologies for its promotion. He called for mega package for floriculture sector to make it as an industrial sector in the State.Nawang Rigzin Jora called for taking the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee into account in order to increase the agricultural production. He also called for judicious spending of money under the schemes besides providing better irrigation facilities to the farmers. He said that while there are no major industries in the State, government should focus on promotion of agriculture and horticulture sectors in the State.Choudhary Sukhnandan said that the identified areas under agriculture and horticulture sectors should be further developed. He also called for developing Basmati Village which would benefit the farmers and growers. He also called for procurement of local production for boosting State's economy. 

 Mubarak Gul calling agriculture and horticulture sectors as the backbone of State’s economy, pleaded for introducing agriculture policy in the state for betterment of the farming community. He asked the government to elaborate on their policies regarding the floriculture sector and agro-industry. He said that such sectors were vital for giving a flip to the department and its functioning.MY Tarigami said that agriculture and horticulture sectors are equally important and Government must work towards developing and evolving these sectors with scientific intervention. He urged Government to provide helping hands to the farmers.Shah Muhammad Tantray hailed the Government for its various pro-people schemes. He said that various schemes launched in Poonch have really made an impact on the lives of people. He demanded that Government should launch awareness and educational programmes for the farming community.

Waqar Rasool demanded for hybrid seed varieties of rice seed, maize and vegetables to be provided to the farming community. He also demanded for awareness camp to educate farmers about timely seed sowing to yield better crop. He advocated for increasing the subsidies of seeds, cultivator machines and apiculture. He also called for reviewing sericulture sector and horticulture centre besides urging the Government to take concrete measures to seizing landslides in his constituency.Rajeev Jasrotia complemented the Government for various procurement initiatives and demanded for proper implementation of KCC loans to benefit maximum beneficiaries. He said that there is need of organizing awareness programmes to educate farmers about various welfare schemes. He said that close coordination needs to be developed between Agriculture, Irrigation, and Horticulture and allied sectors to increase the production in the state.Mohammad Akbar Lone advocated for providing quality seeds, unadulterated pesticides, tree oil and fertilizers to the farmers at affordable rates. He called for organising mass awareness programmes and for regularisation of employees of the department.

Bashir Ahmad Dar called for checking adulteration in fertilizers and pesticides being provided to the farmers. He called for taking concrete steps for stopping the conversion of agriculture land.Mohammad Altaf Bukhari called for making pesticide testing labs functional and for providing trees spray oil to the farmers. He urged for making Government Apple Juice Concentrate units functional.Asgar Ali Karbalaie demanded for establishment of Apricot Village and an Apricot processing unit in Kargil. He said that pests like Brown tail moth and Yellow Tail moth are damaging Apricot plantation in the area and demanded for a research team for timely control over the loss. He demanded for filling up various vacant posts in his constituency and for special focus on women empowerment via Self Help Group.Daleep Singh Parihar demanded for increasing district plan funds for developmental work in his constituency. He called for conducting mass awareness camps and establishment of Fruit mandies at Bhaderwah and Bhalessa.

Abdul Majeed Padder hailed the Government for its efforts to reach out to farmer community of the State. He said various initiatives should be launched for bringing positive changes in agriculture and horticulture sectors.GM Saroori said that Government should be innovative in its approach and should launch many schemes to benefit the grassroots in all sectors, especially agriculture and horticulture departments. He urged government to provide plant saplings and other facilities to the farmers for better production.Gagan Bhagat urged the Government for establishing Basmati Villages, saying that Government should also imposes tax on Basmati and other allied products coming from outside the State.Altaf Ahmad Wani demanded for organizing mass camps to aware people about various schemes being implemented by the Government in the State to boost production. He demanded for proper distribution of high density Walnut plants and revival of sericulture in the area. He demanded for acquiring lands for construction of Parks to boost the tourism influx in the area.Pawan Kumar Gupta called for tapping the horticulture potential of the state and for special allocation of fund to Horticulture sector of Jammu Division. He called for Cluster based development programmes for sericulture sector boost.
