Former Union Minister of State for Home and senior AICC spokesman Shakeel Ahmed on Tuesday flagged off the NRI Express bus with a large number of NRIs here from UK and Canada to join the Congress campaign in Punjab.Carrying the Congress message to the voters of the state, the NRIs will highlight the party’s agenda for the development and progress of Punjab, which stands at crossroads today, with only the Congress equipped to bring about the much-needed change in the state.Flagging off the bus, etched in the Congress colours, Shakeel Ahmed said the NRIs had come specially to participate in the Punjab elections by campaigning vigorously for the Congress candidates.Indian Overseas Congress (UK) president Daljit Singh Sahota said though they were staying abroad, the hearts of the NRIs still beats for Punjab and they wanted the state to prosper under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh.Expressing the confidence that the Congress would be elected to power with a thumping majority, Canadian Davinder Garcha said the NRIs had come to be a part of the victory. They would contribute to the campaign by spreading awareness about the promises made in the Congress manifesto.Harjinder Singh from Germany and Gurpal Singh from UK said they wanted to adopt their constituencies to campaign for the Congress, which was the only party that could save the state from further doom.Shakeel Ahmed said the NRIs were concerned about the plight of Punjab and had decided to join the Congress effort to alleviate the sufferings of the people of the state by joining the party campaign.
