DC reviews implementation of PC&PNDT Act

District Development Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar chaired a meeting of District Advisory Committee to review the implementation of PC&PNDT Act in the district.Stressing for strict implementation of the PC&PNDT Act (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act) in the district, DDC asked the concerned officers to ensure that Ultra Sound centres comply with the provisions of the Act.The meeting also discussed the vital role of ASHA workers in dissemination of information among the family members of pregnant women on social and legal issues regarding sex selection.The DDC laid stress for registration of pregnant ladies so that practice of selective abortion or female foeticide can be discouraged and institutional deliveries be encouraged. He said female foeticide is a criminal offence and attracts penal provision of PC&PNDT Act. He said reward for any whistleblower who will inform authorities about any incident of selective abortion/ female foeticide is laid down under the provision of PC&PNDT Act.  DDC also directed the concerned for installation of message banners on PC&PNDT at hospitals, health centers and ultrasound clinics to create awareness regarding the provisions of the act.Later, the DDC also chaired a meeting of health officers to review the preparedness of upcoming Pulse Polio Drive.
