The locals from Karnah and Teetwal areas of frontier Kupwara district Saturday staged protest here in Srinagar asking state government to construct a tunnel at the strategically important Sadhana Pass to remain connected with the Valley round the year.Scores of people who assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar alleged that Beacon is using dilly dally tactics and is not resuming the construction work on the tunnel despite the fact state government has accorded sanction to the tunnel from Chowkibal to Sadhana Pass. The construction of a tunnel is the best option to ensure round the year connectivity of our mountain locked area. Besides, this tunnel will negotiate the dangerous height of (Sadhana pass through which Kupwara-Tangdhar road passes) and definitely will minimize the threats of shooting stones and avalanches which gets triggered during the bad weather,” the protesters told CNS.“The frequent road blockades cause immense hardships to the inhabitants and adversely affects their economy. As the road gets blocked, we can’t shift the serious patients for specialized treatment to hospitals in Srinagar,” they said and urged upon the government to start the construction work on the proposed tunnel.
