Lohri was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm in the premises of Universal Group of Institutions. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. The program started with Lohri Poojan. The Chairman, the staff and the students worshiped Dhooni. Sweets and groundnuts were also distributed among the studentsThe students also presented a cultural bonanza which included Punjabi Boliyaan, Punjabi folk songs, Lohri songs and poems in the campus. There were fun games for faculty & Staff too .Dr.Gurpreet Singh, Chairman, UGI greeted the students and urged them to value their cultural heritage. He said that it is only due these festivals that we are able to maintain our ancestral values and traditions and Lohri is the one of the harvest festivals of Punjab famously known as the bread basket state of India Thus people residing in North India has a lot of significance to Lohri.He further informed that the festival marks both celebration and sharing and is being celebrated now as “Dhiyaan Di Lohri” to educate the people about the equal rights of the girl child in the society.
