NIELIT organizes workshop on e-literacy

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Srinagar on Wednesday organized an awareness workshop on e-literacy for Principals of Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir Division.The workshop titled ‘Program for awareness workshop on e-literacy for Principals of Government Degree Colleges’ was aimed to create awareness about introduction of various e-literacy initiatives to be taken in the colleges of the State as part of Digital India Programme.The workshop was attended by dozens of Principals from different Degree Colleges of Valley.In an introductory speech, Executive Director NIELIT Srinagar, Dr. Ayaz Hassan Moon, deliberated upon the concept of e-literacy and gave an overview of NIELT and its programme.Appealing the academicians to come out and explore the things, Dr. Moon said academicians can’t grow in isolation. For that they need to come out and explore the latest technologies.He welcomed the people associated with the technology sector to get maximum benefit from the resources of NIELT which he said is the only organization in the State having access to 570 online Journals.  

Dr. Moon emphasized on the National Policy on IT, 2003 which is to make at least one person in house an e-literate. To promote digital literacy, we are also providing training workshops to teachers and want to create a network between different colleges in the State, he added.It was given out that NIELIT has been working on establishing smart classes in different schools in the State. In phase-1 it has established lab-cum-smart-classrooms in 440 schools. More 620 schools will be benefited in the State in phase-2 as the part of Digital India Programme.Deliberating upon the different courses provided by NIELIT, Joint Director NIELIT said that the institute has imparted skills to more than 45 lakh candidates, so far.Later, an online interaction session with the team from Amrita University was held in which students and academicians from SP College and Bemina Degree College also participated.
