Rs 396.52 cr DPR submitted to GoI for protection, conservation of Tawi River : Dr. Nirmal Singh

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh today said that a comprehensive plan has been devised to conserve River Tawi on the pattern of conservation of river Sabarmati in Gujarat.Responding to a question by Ashok Khajuria in the house, Deputy Chief Minister said that MoU has been signed between Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Ltd Ahmadabad for providing Management Consultancy Services for development of Tawi River Front in Jammu city. Giving further details, the Dy CM said SRFDC has formulated a feasibility report of Rs 396.52 crore for protection and conservation of 3.5 km stretch along the Tawi River to be taken up in first phase.He said the government has submitted the project report to the Union Ministry of Water and Resources for sanction and release of funds adding that the work of the project would be taken up after funds are released from the center.Dr Nirmal Singh said meanwhile 10 Nallahs falling on the right bank of river Tawi are being treated at STPs setup in Bhagwati Nagar under JNNURM. He said treatment plants for five Nallahs falling on left bank of river Tawi have been approved under AMRUT and the process of    tendering has been started.He said most of the Nallahs of old city drain into River Tawi and hence a comprehensive project is being devised for waste management. He said currently the garbage thrown into Nallahs is being collected at different points by JMC and disposed off at land-fill site Bhagwati Nagar on the city outskirts.Legislators Ajat Shatru Singh, Ramesh Arora, Vibod Gupta and Surinder Chaudhary raised supplementary questions.
