Minister for Youth Services & Sports and Technical Education, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today said the State Government is committed to raise the standards of the sports in Jammu and Kashmir by creating adequate state-of-the-art infrastructure.Ansari was speaking at a function held in connection with the 15th State Open Fencing Championship event at Indoor Complex of M A M Stadium Jammu.While congratulating the finalists, the Minister said the sport is the field in which any individual can get an opportunity to shine at the global level. “At the moment when our sportspersons are doing wonders for the state, it becomes imperative to take the level of our sports to the newer heights and our government is committed to do that,” Mr Ansari said, while referring to the recent gold winning performances by the state players in different parts of the world.The Championship with the participation of sportspersons from ten districts of the State saw Veer Sangram Singh from Jammu and Ravi Sharma from Kathua emerging as finalists in the Boys category, while, Akanksha Sabarwal and Arushi Sharma emerged finalists in Girls category.Mukerjeet Sharma, founder-president of J&K Amateur Fencing Association, informed the Minister that over 2000 participants from across the state took part in the Championship.On the occasion, Chota Lal Sharma, the head coach of the tournament, spoke about the performances of his players.“They have already played Fencing at National as well as International levels,” Sharma said and informed that this year girl sportspersons of the state defeated famous team of Manipur in National Fencing Championship.
