Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today said that the Government is mulling to introduce skill development courses in the educational institutions so that the students are provided with the knowhow and technical knowledge of various vocations.The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with the students of Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar and Government College for Women (GDC) Nawakadal, Srinagar, who called on him here today.The deputation was led by Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar Dr Kiran Bakshi and Dr Bilquees, Associate Professor Department of Education GDC Nawakadal. Senior BJP leader, Ms Mamta Singh was also present on the occasion.

The students while extending New Year greetings to the Deputy Chief Minister and Ms Mamta Singh presented to them the products made by them under the ‘Skill Enhancement  of Students’ initiative which has been started in Government Degree Colleges of the State.Dr. Singh appreciated the efforts of the students of the Colleges for undertaking Mushroom cultivation, setting up of florist shop, making fresh chocolates in GCW Gandhi Nagar and the production of paper machie items in GDC Nawakadal. He said the Colleges should constantly work to upgrade the technical skills of the students as well as a quality of their products so that these become popular. This would also inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship in them, he added.The Deputy Chief Minister said the option of having and optional paper of Skill Development in the curriculum would also be explored so that more and more students get the requisite and proper Skill Development Education.
