Punjab to create elite force to tackle any emergent situation- Sukhbir Singh Badal

125 eminent sportspersons inducted as DSPs, Sub-Inspectors & Constables

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that an elite force comprising 250 Punjab police personnel will be created in the state to tackle terror attacks, hijackings and any emergent crisis which will be equipped with latest weapons and gadgetry.He was addressing a function here today after handing over the appointment letters to 768 police personal including 125 eminent sportspersons on various ranks. Appreciating the state police functioning he said the Punjab police is the best police force in the entire country as it is courageous, strong willed and has highly educated personnel with a go getter attitude.S. Badal said his vision is to strengthen and modernize the police force and make it stand out amongst the best in the world. He also said that out of the total strength of 70,000 personnel in the state police the SAD-BJP government has recruited more than 26000 personnel in the past 8 years.The Deputy Chief Minister said a totally transparent procedure was followed scrupulously in these recruitments for which merit was the sole consideration and even the interview was done away with to ensure that best talent comes to the fore. He also said due to the transparent recruitment policy of the SAD-BJP government now even a person hailing from the poorest of the poor background can aspire for a job. He also divulged that 2.5 lakh people have been given the jobs in the past decade by SAD-BJP government.

S. Badal, who also holds sports portfolio, today handed over job letters to 9 eminent sports persons of Punjab as DSPs under new sports policy which included three times Asian games gold medalist and Commonwealth games gold medalist athlete Mandeep Kaur, Asian games gold medalist Hockey players Akashdeep Singh, Manpreet Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Gurwinder Singh Chandi, Dharamvir Singh and Sarvanjit Singh, Asian games silver medalist athlete Khusbir Kaur and Asian games bronze medalist Amandeep Kaur. In addition to this 115 players and 643 personal were also given appointment letters in the rank of sub-inspector and constables in various wings. He also announced to recruit 125 eminent players every year in the state police.Terming the players as the backbone of state police, S. Badal also informed that Punjab Institute of Sports (PIS) has been rendering a yeoman’s service in training the budding players from a young age with their educational needs taken care of by the state government. Elaborating his vision, Deputy CM said he intends to open a sports school in each district on the lines of sports school at Ghudda.

Coming to the women centric measures in Punjab Police, S. Badal, who also holds Home portfolio, elaborated that he created a cadre of women in the state police and recruited 4500 women. He also added that 200 women have become sub-inspectors in the state police for the first time. He further said a SWAT team comprising women personnel would also be formed in Punjab Police.Touching on other aspects, the Deputy Chief Minister said in order to rectify the lacuna in promotions about 25000 personnel have been promoted in Punjab Police during the tenure of present state government as he had evolved a policy regarding automatic promotions after 8 and 16 years of service. He also lauded the role of special rapid rural response system in tackling the crime and helping the rural regions of the state.

Interacting with media S. Badal said PPCC President Captain Amarinder Singh had banned recruitments during his tenure thus robbing scores of state youth of their rightful job opportunities. Castigating AAP, the Deputy Chief Minister said this party has shunned moral norms with the induction of persons accused of rape and murderous attacks into the party fold.On the occasion the DGP Punjab Suresh Arora welcomed the new inductees into the state police and exhorted them to work with dedication and do full justice to their duty and public. He also thanked the Deputy CM for remarkable initiatives concerning the Punjab Police.Among others present on the occasion included special principal secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Manvesh Singh Sidhu, ADGP (Administration) Dinkar Gupta ADGP IPS Sahota, Director Sports Rahul Gupta and top brass of the police department were also present.
