The Punjab Governor and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh, V.P. Singh Badnore asked the Chandigarh administration to make adequate arrangements for imparting expertise training to the budding players for various games. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 17th All India Police Lawn Tennis Tournament organised by the CLTA and Chandigarh Police, here today, the Governor said that to popularise games such as Tennis, Wimbledon, Hockey, Athletics, wrestling, football, basketball etc and to motivate the budding sports persons towards games, we have to make sure that we give them world class training by qualified coaches in world class stadiums.The Governor exhorted the sports council and other stakeholders to motivate youth towards sports to ensure that they remain away from drugs and other social aberrations.   He termed games as the best stress busters for the youth that could channelize their energies in some constructive areas.

Recalling his school days, Mr. Badnore, who himself was a keen Tennis Player said that he had represented his school, then his college in various such tournaments. He laid more emphasis that ardent sport persons should be identified right from the beginning in the schools so that fairly good brushing up could be done at the initial levels.As many as 24 teams participated in the CLTA tournament held from December 19 to 23. Total 176 matches were played in which 105 players participated. There were five events held on the concluding day i.e. Retiree Veteran doubles won by Mr. S.M. Sharma, IPS (Retd.) and Shri Abdul Razaq DCP (AP), veteran doubles won by Shri BNS Reddy (IGP)- KT, Shri O.P. Dixit, SSO (MP), veteran singles was won by Mr. O.P. Dixit, SSO (MP), open doubles won by Mr. Nadeem Ahmed, Commdt and Mr. Manas Ranjan. While open singles was won by Mr. Ashish Kapoor, Commdt.The Governor gave away prizes to the winners. Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Mr. Rajan Kashyap, Former Chief Secretary, Punjab and founder & Patron-in-Chief, CLTA, Mr. Jai Singh Gill, former Chief Secretary, President CLTA, CLTA, Mrs. Bhupinder Banta Singh, Member Executive, CLTA, Mr. Megh Raj, IAS (Retd.) Chief Operating Officer, CLTA, Mr. Tejinder Luthra, IGP, UT, Chandigarh, Mr., Eish Single, SP, UT, Mr. Sarabjit Singh, DGP (Retd.) and Mr. S.M. Sharma, DGP (Retd.).
