Faridkot , 23 Dec 2016

A group of Congress workers, led by Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, party leader and Assembly election nominee from Faridkot, on Friday met family members of the debt-ridden farmer who had committed suicide along with his children, in village Machki Mal.Dhillon, along with a large number of party workers,  met the mother and uncle of the deceased farmer Jagjit Singh, and extended his support for them in their hour of turmoil and grief.Dhillon urged the farmers in the village not to resort to such extreme measures, and conveyed to them Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh’s assurance that their woes would come to an end immediately after the party comes to power in the state.“It’s just a matter of two more months,” he told the aggrieved farmers, most of whom are reeling under debt burdens, and added that the next Congress government, under Captain Amarinder Singh, was committed to taking over every single paisa of their loans.

Dhillon empathised with the farmers, whose very survival had been put at stake by the Akali government, saying the Badals would have to pay for every farmer’s life lost under their misrule of the past 10 years. The Badal government has plunged the state into an agrarian crisis with their procurement bungling, payment delays, foodgrain and pesticide scams, and other such acts of misdemeanor, said Dhillon, adding that the spate of farmer suicides in the state reflected the extent to which the farming community was suffering.Lambasting the Badals for pushing the farmers in the state to such desperation, Captain Amarinder once again urged the debt-ridden farmers not to take such an extreme step and to have patience for just two more months as he would take immediate steps to waive off all their loans after coming to power.
