In a further fillip to upgrading of sports infrastructure in the state, the Punjab Government has spent Rs 5.60 crore on the upgradation of three shooting ranges. Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia disclosed this here today while inaugurating ultramodern Mohali Shooting Indoor Range which has been upgraded and equipped with latest world class technologies at the cost of Rs. 1.60 Crore here today. Mr. Majithia, who is also the President of Punjab Rifle Shooting Association, said that this advanced shooting range has been equipped with laser target technique and other electronic gadgets. He said that Punjab is the only state which has provided shooting range with these facilities of international standards and soon Punjab will witness an International Shooting competition. Giving further details, Mr. Majithia said that the state government is fully committed to provide all necessary facilities including training from top class coaches of national and international repute to the players so as to ensure the maximum participation of players from the state in next Olympic Games.Mr. Majithia said that these shooting ranges were opened to everyone and any budding shooting start can register with these training hubs. He further added that young talent from around the state would be chosen and free training along with subsidized equipments would be provided to them to make them shining stars of the country.
Reiterating the commitment to provide the requisite infrastructure for development of shooting sports in the state, Mr. Majithia said that SAD-BJP government has increased the sports budget 10 times in last 9 years and sports infrastructure has witnessed drastic improvement with an investment of Rs. 510 Crore. He said that 21 multipurpose stadiums, 7 Astrotruf Hockey Stadiums, fully Air Conditioned stadium at Ludhiana have been constructed in the state besides distributing gymnasiums and sports kits to all the sports clubs of the state.Replying to a media query on this occasion about fielding Jarnail Singh from Lambi constituency, Mr. Majithia said that after failing to find candidates from the Punjab, AAP convener Kejriwal has started importing candidates from other states. He questioned the contribution of Jarnail Singh for the welfare of Delhi and Punjab. He also dared Kejriwal to fight election from any seat of his choice in Punjab rather than fielding scapegoats. “What is fun in fielding such a candidate in Majitha who was completely rejected by the people of Mohali”, quipped Mr. Majithia.Lauding the demonetization decision of the Prime Minister as a bold step to curb the menace of black money and its use by anti national forces, Mr. Majithia said that Chandigarh MC polls have proved that people have stood by this decision to safeguard interests of the nation. “We all faced some problems caused by demonetization but now with the passage of time and necessary arrangements made, now the situation is coming to normalcy”, he added.Others prominent present on the occasion included Advisor to Deputy CM-Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, OSD to DCM Mr. Parminder Singh Brar, Media Advisor to DCM Mr. Jangbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mr. DS Mangat, SSP Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Chief Patron Punjab Rifle Shooting Association Mr. Raja KS Sidhu, Senior Vice President Col.
