On separatists call, JKHCBA holds protest

Asks India, Pak to shun ‘armed violence’, initiate peaceful dialogue

In the backdrop of the join resistance leadership call, Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Wednesday staged protests against the “killings, maiming and blinding of civilians” during the last over five months of mass unrest in Kashmir.The association members’ assembled at the High Court complex shouted slogans against the use of pellets and bullets that have left thousands of people injured, several lost partial and some complete eyesight, during the hay days of the uprising.The protesters who were noted lawyers and other legal luminaries stressed upon India and Pakistan to stop armed violence and initiate peaceful dialogue to resolve the long pending vexed Kashmir issue.Talking to KNS, HCBA General Secretary, Advocate Bashir Ahmad Sidique said that in the last five months of uprising in Kashmir, as many as one hundred people were killed and according to various unofficial reports around 12,000 injured.“The Government of India and Government of Pakistan must initiate a peaceful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue,” he demanded.He said that there is every possibility of war in case the GoI and Pakistan fail to initiate dialogue over the resolution of Kashmir issue.Sidique said that they organized the protest on the call given by the separatist leadership including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik as part of their weekly protest calendar.He said that the protest has been organized to convey a message to the world community to raise their voices against the sufferings of Kashmiris.“We want to appeal the International Community to play their role in pressing both the neighbouring countries to start dialogue process over the issue,” he added.
