Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik was on Monday detained outside Dastageer Sahab Shrine here after he tried to march towards Lal Chowk.Reports said that Malik who had taken refuge inside Saraibala shrine to evade his arrest tried to march towards Lal Chowk along with his supporters soon after the after Zuhar (afternoon) prayers culminated in the mosque. However, as soon as the JKLF chief stepped out from the mosque, police swung into action and detained him to prevent him from marching ahead.Earlier, Malik told reporters that from past several years, the forces have unleashed a “reign of terror” in Kashmir. “The terror unleashed by the forces is the only reason that the well educated youth of Kashmir are picking up guns,” he said.He said that the educated youth who are taking part in the ongoing freedom struggle peacefully are being arrested, tortured and harassed thereby forcing them to take extreme steps even taking to armed struggle.

He added that they (Hurriyat leaders) are soldiers. “Soldiers know how to walk alone and how to continue with this ongoing freedom struggle.”“We have been facing such situation from past several decades. India failed in past and will not succeed even in future,” JKLF chief, according to KNS correspondent, said.He said that those who are campaigning for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ have blinded several girls in the current uprising by targeting them with pellets.Notably, the separatist leadership had called for Lal Chowk chalo today.Meanwhile, police had launched crackdown to arrest Malik during which they arrested his nephew Suhaib from Amira-Kadal Bridge.Police also raided various houses at Saraibala including the residence of slain militant commander Ishfaq Majeed Wani.Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani and Hurriyat (M) Chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq weren’t allowed to move towards Lal-Chowk and continued to remain under house arrest at their respective residences.
