Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan reviewed the facilities available at Leper Colony, Behrar in a meeting held here today.While reviewing the facilities, the Divisional Commissioner directed the officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to submit a DPR for fencing work of Leper Colony at the earliest so that work shall be executed soon. He also asked LAWDA authorities to expedite the process of construction of drainage at Colony.The Divisional Commissioner further directed GMC Srinagar to constitute a team of doctors to assess the health condition of inmates on regular basis. Enquiring about the pension to Leper beneficiaries, he was informed that pension amount for leper patients being provided by Social Welfare Department has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 with effect from December 2015.During the meeting, it was informed that about 101 inmates are presently living in the colony and construction work of 44 residential quarters is near to completion.The Divisional Commissioner said that several measures are being taken to improve the living conditions of Leper Colony inmates. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure all basic facilities to the inmates on priority.
