The Environment Committee of Legislative Assembly today directed Transport Authority to ensure removal of 25-year old vehicles plying in the twin cities Jammu and Srinagar which cause heavy environment pollution.The Committee, under the chairmanship of MLA Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen discussed the concerns of increasing Environment Pollution due to Automobile emissions by old vehicles and sought the information about number of such vehicles. The Committee further instructed Transport Department to seize vehicles falling in the category within a week’s time. Legislators, Shamim Firdous, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Ch. Mohammad Akram, Anjum Fazili, Kuldeep Raj, Ravinder Raina and Aijaz Ahmad Mir attended the meeting and gave their suggestions to make the J&K State pollution free. The Committee also sought status of total manpower of the traffic department to monitor/manage traffic moment in Jammu by the traffic department. Later, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pawan Kotwal apprised the committee about the latest steps and status of CNG project in the division. The Committee also asked the department to ensure every vehicle carries pollution check certificate. The Committee directed for installation of CCTV cameras at busy roads, intersections for keeping check on traffic rule violators.
