CM Gives Nod For Deployment Of 'Special Tourist Police' In Amritsar

In a bid aimed at facilitating the tourists coming to holy city of Amritsar, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave nod for deployment of 'Special Tourist Police' to assist them for ensuring a comfortable and hassle free stay. A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister, while presiding over a meeting of Amritsar Culture & Tourism Development Authority (ACTDA) here at his residence this morning.Chairing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that these Police personnel would be deployed from the regular Police force and would be tasked to help the tourists visiting the holy city. Mr. Badal underscored the need to impart specialised training and orientation courses for these officers so as to enable them to discharge their duties in an efficient manner. Mr. Badal envisioned this force as a catalyst in ensuring safety, security and comfortable stay of the tourists.The Chief Minister said that the ACTDA has been constituted under the administrative control of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department to take care of all the newly created tourist facilities in the vicinity of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Durgiana Mandir, Ram Tirath Complex, Town Hall, Gobindgarh Fort and Urban Haat at Amritsar. He said that approximately 500 to 750 meters area around Sri Darbar Sahib, Gobindgarh Fort, Durgiana Mandir and Ram Tirath Complex would be under the jurisdiction of said authority, which has been authorized to execute development works related to maintenance, cleanliness, electricity, monuments-lighting, sanitation, upkeep of roads, solid waste management and other related works in this area.The Chief Minister said that the inauguration of various new projects in Amritsar has been instrumental in boosting tourism in the holy city. He said that the new projects have given a new look to the city while preserving its age old ethnic look. Mr. Badal said that these projects have added zing to the holy city and would be instrumental in giving a major fillip to tourism sector in the city. "ACTDA must ensure the proper maintenance of these projects adding that no stone should be left unturned for ensuring proper maintenance of these projects", he added.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development Mr. Vishwajeet Khanna, Secretary Tourism And Cultural Affairs Mr. Hussan Lal, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema, Special Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Director Institutional Finance Mr. Arshdeep Singh Thind and Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Mr. Basant Garg.
