Today Dr Shehnaz Ganai, MLC, raised the issue of recent upsurge of Dengue cases in the State, and the action taken by Government by the government in this behalf. While referring to the reply she mentioned that WHO has already put India, as “High Risk Zone, for Dengue,” and as such stressed the Government to understand the problem and ensure the measures for the current year on war footing basis, to tackle the situation, before it turns out of control. She said that during 2013, the State has witnessed 1837 Confirmed Dengue cases in J&K out of which three persons have died, as against 23 cases with one death in 2012-13. The situation during 2013 was alarming and the rate of confirmed cases has increased at an alarming rate, which comes to nearly 7900% increase over the previous year, and stressed that Govt needs to take the spread of Dengue as a mission, so as to eradicate its reoccurrence in the state.
She said that the Basic diagnostic Test for detection of Dengue is ELISA, and presently in Jammu pision, it is being done, only at GMC Jammu, and similarly for Kashmir pision in GMC Srinagar. The patients from the whole of the province have to come to Jammu, to get the basic test done, which puts a question mark on the measures taken by the Government to contain the menace of dengue and provide medical assistance to those affected, in the absence of basic diagnostic facility at the remote places. She Stressed that Government needs to take steps to make the facility of ELISA test available at the district Hospitals and to this The Hon’ble Minister, appreciated the suggestion put forth and assured the Member and the house that from this year the ELISA Test will be done at District Hospital level throughout the state.
