A delegation of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC), led by its President S. Gurdev Singh, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan. The delegation requested the Governor to impress upon the Central and the State Governments to consider one time settlement of issues of the 1947 Displaced Persons (DPs) which include: compensation for their properties in POK; compensation for the deficiencies in the lands earlier allotted to them; reimbursement of cost of land, with interest; employment package/reservation for their wards in technical institutions and government jobs. The delegation also requested the Governor to impress upon the State Government to simplify the procedure and formalities for issuing Permanent Resident Certificates in favour of Displaced Persons and to urge the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister to take the JKSAC representatives in confidence and prepare a comprehensive road map for assessing and paying compensation to the DPs.The Governor observed that he had earlier also taken up JKSAC’s problems with the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister and would do so again.
