Police on Friday locked the gates of Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani from outside and disallowed him to march towards Jamia Masjid while Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq was detained after he tried to march towards Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.Notably, the separatist leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement had called for Jamia Masjid chalo march from Thursday evening to break the siege around it which has remained intact since July 09 of this year.According to Hurriyat (G) leader, Geelani was today disallowed to venture out as “police locked both the gates of his residence from outside.”“Geelani stood for around twenty minutes knocking at the gates locked from outside but police did not respond,” he said.Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman was detained outside his Nigeen residence when he tried to proceed towards Srinagar’s Jamai Masjid.

Hurriyat (M) leader told KNS that as soon as Mirwaiz tried to march towards Jamia Masjid from his Nigeen residence, a large number of forces already deployed outside his residence prevented him to march and detained him“Mirwaiz was later lodged at Police Station Nigeen,” he said.Pertinently, following the Jamia Chalo march called by separatist leadership, the authorities on Thursday afternoon placed Mirwaiz under house detention while JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested and was shifted to Srinagar’s central Jail. However, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, who is under house detention since 2010, was locked inside his Hyderpora residence.Notably, in view of the Jamia chalo march, the authorities imposed curfew in Srinagar parts to prevent people from marching towards Jamia Masjid. It is worth to mention here that Jamia Masjid remained closed since July 8 of this year.
