To discuss the situation arisen after the SC verdict on SYL canal, Punjab BJP president, Vijay Sampla today evening held an important meeting of the core group of the party. Former party president and cabinet minister Madan Mohan Mittal, former chief and MLA Manoranjan Kalia, former president and MLA Ashwini Sharma, ex-president Rajinder Bhandari, former chief Kamal Sharma, cabinet minister Surjit Kumar Jiyani were present at the meeting besides state party vice-president Harjit Singh Garewal, general secretary Manjit Singh Rai and state party secretary Vineet Joshi, who were specially invited.Talking to media persons after the meeting, Sampla said, “In order to protect the interests of Punjab and its farmers, Punjab BJP is standing like a rock. It is of supreme importance to protect farmers of Punjab because they feed the entire nation and heavily contribute to the food basket of the country. Besides, they play an important role to strengthen our economy. We will not let the interests of our farmers get hurt”.
Terming the resignations of Captain Amarinder Singh and Congress MLAs as farce, Sampla said, “Captain and his team are staging a political drama by resigning over the issue. Amarinder’s conscience is already dead. He never went to the Lok Sabha for people’s good. Instead, his membership was about to be cancelled due to his continuous absence from the house. Congress is the progenitor of SYL, whose foundation stone was laid down by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. Where was Capt. Amarinder that time and what is he doing in Congress now? If he wanted to resign, he should have resigned from the Congress. Seems like Kejriwal’s soul has entered his body and that is why he is resorting to such antics”.“CM Parkash Singh Badal had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this matter, but had the then Congress CM, Darbara Singh not been pressurised by Indira Gandhi and withdrawn it, the situation would have been different” added Sampla.
