The Kabaddi matches on the fifth day of Dr BR Ambedkar 6th World Cup Kabaddi 2016 were held in the grounds of Shaheed Udham Singh Stadium, Moonak (District Sangrur) today. In today's matches, Indian eves defeated Mexico by 35-21 and entered the semi finals of this mega sporting event. In the men section matches of Pool A, India defeated Sweden by 58-45 and England defeated Canada by 41-35. Another matche of men section between Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka proved one sided as the African team defeated the Sri Lankans by 70-6 and scored their first victory of World Cup. In the last match of the day, the Iran men team defeated the Argentina team by 72-27. With this win, the Iran team scored a hattrick and secured their place in the Semi Finals.Chief Guest for today’s matches were Rajya Sabha member Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Punjab Finance Minister Mr Parminder Singh Dhindsa was the guest of honour. 

On this occasion, MLA Mr Gobind Singh Longowal, Babu Parkash Chand Garg, Punjab Public Service Commission Sukhwant Singh Sarao, PSPCL Director Gurbachan Singh Bachi, NRI Commission member Karan Ghuman, Deputy Commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind, ADC Poonamdeep Kaur, SSP Pritpal Singh Thind, SDM Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Sports Department Assistant Director Kartar Singh Sehamby were also present.While addressing the gathering, Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that their main aim is to take Kabaddi into Olympics. He also thanked Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal for organising matches of World Cup Kabaddi 2016 in the Moonak town of Sangrur district. He said that it is only due to the efforts of Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government that Kabaddi is now an international sport with various nations competing in the sixth edition of Dr BR Ambedkar World Cup Kabaddi 2016.On this occasion, International level Kabaddi player Gulzari Moonak was honoured. In today’s matches, special sitting arrangement was made for the ex-servicemen. Punjabi singer Pammi Bai enthralled the audience with his performance.  

MATCH 1: MEN SECTION: INDIA DEFEAT SWEDEN BY 58-45:

In the first match of the day, India defeated Sweden by 58-45. Indian raiders Gulzari Moonak scored 11 and Sukhjinder Kala and Raju scored 1- points each, while stoppers Karamjit Singh and Ranjodh Singh secured three points each. For Sweden, raider Akash scored 11 and Gurvir Singh scored 9 points and stopper Jaap Singh secured 3 points.

 

MATCH 2: MEN SECTION: ENGLAND DEFEAT CANADA BY 41-35:

In this match, England defeated Canada by 41-35. This was one of the most competitive matches of the day with players from both the teams winning hearts of the jam packed stadium. For England, raiders Narinder Singh scored 9, Avtar Singh Bal 8 points and stoppers Sandeep Sandhu “Nangal Ambia” secured 9 points and Jagtar Singh secured 6 points. For Canada, raiders Ranjodh, Amarjit and Kulwinder Kinda scored 6 points each and stopper Baljit Singh Saidoke secured 5 points and Jasdeep secured 4 points.

 

MATCH 3: MEN SECTION: SIERRA LEONE DEFEAT SRI LANKA BY 70-6:

In this pool A match, Sierra Leone scored an easy one sided victory over first time participants Sri Lanka. For Sierra Leone, Murlayi scored 10 and Samual scored 8 points while stopper Kumara secured 9 and Mohammad secured 8 points for their team.

 

MATCH 4: WOMEN SECTION: INDIA DEFEAT MEXICO BY 35-21:

Indian eves defeated Mexico with a margin of 35-21 and entered the semi finals of World Cup Kabaddi with today’s victory. For India, raiders Harwinder Kaur and Sukhjinder Kaur scored 5 points each and stoppers Sukhjit Kaur and Jasvir Kaur secured 3 points each. For Mexico, raiders Tanya and Alexandra scored 5 points each and stopper Christa and Careta secured 4 and 2 points respectively.

 

MATCH 5: MEN SECTION: IRAN DEFEAT ARGENTINA BY 72-27:

By defeating Argentina, the Iran team scored a hattrick of the World Cup Kabaddi and entered the semi finals. For Iran, raiders Behnam and Jandhar scored 10 and 11 points respectively while stoppers Mustafa and Safari secured 6 and 5 points respectively. For Argentina, Alexander scored 8 points and Bruno scored 6 points.
