Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused Punjab government of politicizing sacrifice of freedom fighters for political gains. In a press statement, AAP Punjab Convener, Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Ghuggi) said that Badal government while inaugurating Jang-e-Azadi memorial at Kartarpur invited the family members of freedom fighters but insulted them by announcing nothing for them. Leaders of SAD-BJP kept on praising themselves in their speeches but did not even mention the freedom fighters, in memory of those the memorial was constructed. “What is the use of spending Rs. 200 Crores to construct war memorial when the families of freedom fighters are running pole to pillar to get government help announced for them. Rather than running away from its duty, government must renew 45 year old freedom fighters pension policy.” said Waraich. He said that Chief Minister Badal must have shown courtesy to visit the protesting families but he along with his deputy preferred to flee from the venue.Waraich said that the anger of people shows that there is a strong resentment among the masses and people are ready to throw out corrupt leaders in upcoming elections. “Slogan being raised against Chief Minister of the state while he was addressing the gathering, itself says a lot. Akalis must understand the anger of the people and stop committing atrocities on the common people.” said Waraich.“After the formation of AAP government in Punjab, the families of freedom fighters will be given due respect. It is because of the sacrifice of freedom fighters that we are enjoying freedom and their families deserve more respect than ordinary people of country.” said Waraich.
