Even after the delay of 8 long years, Government Super-Specialty Hospital in capital city Srinagar is not fully functional. Reports said that only few departments have been made functional from the Shireen Bagh Building.Though Principal Government Medical College Srinagar Dr Qaisar told news agency CNS that some branches including Neurology, Gastroenterology, nephrology and Urology are fully functional but a cursory visit to the hospital presents a different picture. “It is not fully functional. Patients have been facing lot of hardships. To have a Super-Specialty Hospital here is still a distant dream,” said an attendant from South Kashmir adding that there is no sign of Trauma Centre and other key departments.

“We have already shifted equipments at the hospital to make it fully functional. There are other departments that we are mulling to shift now,” said Dr Qaisar. However, reports said that in the Super-Specialty Hospital neither the staff has been recruited nor has there been ample addition of facilities. “No surgeries and no advanced procedures are being carried out in the hospital. This is the hospital by name only while in reality it lacks all the facilities and requirements that a Super-Specialty Hospital should have,” said a medico wishing not to be named.Pertinently, in Jammu Super-Specialty Hospital is fully functional while in Valley government claims that it is in the process of recruiting staff and putting all facilities in the hospital in place.
