Reminding the people about notorious past of Congress to backtrack from promises made to them, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that repeating the history Congress would dump the issue of debt waiver after coming to power in the state.Addressing the gathering during Sangat Darshan program in Dera Baba Nanak assembly segment here today, the Chief recalled that Congress has never ever fulfilled the promises made to the people. He said that the promise of Garibi Hatao was never fulfilled by the Congress adding that despite of promising Chandigarh and Punjabi speaking areas to the state along with big projects, the Congress party never stood by its words. Mr. Badal said that though the then Prime Minister had promised in the August house of Parliament to hand over Chandigarh to state in 1980s but this was never materialized as Congress party backtracked on this issue.

The Chief Minister said that despite of making tall promises even the present Congress Chief Captain Amarinder Singh withdrew the facility of free power given to farmers during his regime. He said that as a leopard cannot change its spot so he could easily foresee that Congress would dump the issue of debt waiver after getting power. Mr. Badal said that the state Congress Chief was just misleading the people on this issue and there was no guarantee of Congress fulfilling this promise as they neither had vision nor the will to do this work. The Chief Minister said that neither Captain Amarinder Singh nor AAP leader Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has any sympathy with the state adding that both these leaders want to attain power in the state for the sake of their vested interests. He asked the people be cautious of both these leaders who have never struggled for safeguarding the interests of the state. Mr. Badal said that the only contribution of both these leaders was that they lead those parties who were inimical to the interests of the state and its people.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab, which was a once a prosperous state in the country, had suffered a lot due to the discriminatory attitude of the successive congress governments at the centre. He said that Punjab fought the nation’s war against militancy but then also it had to bear the expenditure of the central security forces. Likewise, Mr. Badal said that the state’s economy got a fatal blow when the neighboring states were granted incentives by the Congress government, which led to mass exodus of industry from the state. The Chief Minister reminded the people that Congress had irrelevantly meddled in their political, social, economic and even religious affairs. He said that there was no parallel in world history when the government of country had attacked its own religious shrine as done by Congress on Sri Darbar Sahib adding that even no government could perpetrate the carnage of its own people as done by Congress in 1984 when several innocent Sikhs were mercilessly killed by mob at behest of Congress leadership.

Later on interacting with the media persons, the Chief Minister said that rather than pursuing the politics of opportunism by negotiating favorable deals with the political parties, the former BJP MP Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu should better sit at home. He said that Mr Sidhu was non decisive in joining any party because he was trying to strike a deal which suits his own interest. However, Mr Badal said that people who have no stand on any issue was bound to go in political oblivion. The Chief Minister said that the wise people of the state were totally against those people who ditch their mother party and would teach Mr Sidhu a befitting lesson. He said that the person who has backstabbed his mother party could never be sincere to the people. The Chief Minister said that the state government has constructed several memorials to preserve the cultural heritage of the state. Likewise, he said that Jang-E-Azadi Memorial, Baba Jeevan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji), Guru Ravidass Ji Memorial and Bhagwan Valmiki Sthal would soon be dedicated to the mankind in the coming days.

Concerted efforts of the state government in this regard, were to perpetuate the glorious and rich legacy of our great culture especially amongst the younger generations so as to enable them to connect with their roots. The Chief Minister said that the state government was fully sensitized towards ensuring proper maintenance of these projects for which they had already made the requisite arrangements. Mr. Badal said that the state government would leave no stone unturned for ensuring proper maintenance of these projects adding that they already kept the required funds at their disposal. Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included former Cabinet Minister Jathedar Sucha Singh Langah, MLA Mr. Des Raj Dhugga, his Joint Special Principal Secretary Mr. Kumar Amit, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Pardeep Sabharwal and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Jaspreet Singh.
