women members of Self Help Groups of JKSRLM (UMEED) have successfully completed a month long training programme for value addition in fruits and vegetables.The training programme was organized by Horticulture Department Udhampur in convergence with UMEED at Block Training Centre Chenani. During the programme, the women Self Help Group members prepared over 200 samples of different types of fruit Jams, Jellies, Chutneys, Murabbas, Pickles, Juices etc after being imparted training by the experts of Horticulture department.District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Mr. Niraj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.While speaking on the occasion, the District Development Commissioner appreciated the Women SHG members, and stressed that Federated Institutions of UMEED have pivotal role for elimination of Poverty from rural areas.
He inspected the products prepared by women, and encouraged their commitment. He also inspected stall which was setup under Community Management Sustainable Agricultures (CMSA) Non- Pesticide Management (NPM). Later he distributed certificates among Rural Poor.Additional Mission Director UMEED, Kapil Sharma shared the vision of JKSRLM for poverty elimination. He said that the aim of the programme was to reduce poverty by enabling the poor households to access gainful self employment and skilled wage employment opportunities.Project Officer, DRDA Udhampur, Dr. Jagdish Mehra in his welcome address highlighted the various initiatives under UMEED for the socio-economic upliftment of rural poor members of SHGs.SDM Chenani Mr. Devinder Kumar Sharma , Chief Horticulture Officer, Udhampur, Mr. C.L. Sharma, Block Programme Manager JKSRLM UMEED Mr. Javaid Ahmad Mir, Manager-cum-Chemist Udhampur, Salil Kumar Gupta, were also present on the occasion.
