The Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema thanked the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javedkar for accepting the two main recommendations of CABE Subcommittee in the meeting of CABE in Delhi today.It may be mentioned here that the Union Minister has announced today that the RTE Act will be amended to allow the states a free hand to decide on the 'No detention policy' as well as to take independent state level examination for class 5th and 8th.Dr Cheema who was the Chairperson of the sub-committee has recommended in his report submitted on 19th October that the no detention policy should be reviewed and there should be independent state level examination to assess the level of learning outcome . This report was discussed in today,s marathon meeting which continued for seven hours."This historic decision will help bring improvement in the quality of education throughout the country and will be helpful in fixing accountability .
