Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today inaugurated a National Seminar on ‘Quality Culture in Higher Education - the Road Ahead’ at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.This two day seminar sponsored by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore aims at initiating deliberations among participants to find new ways, ideas for improving quality in Higher Education.Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta said that ‘Education is the means for developing the mind for the betterment of the individual and society’.‘Education is the foundation of every culture. It manifests itself in the cultural, economic, individual, philosophical, scientific, social and spiritual advancement of a culture.’Kavinder said that extreme care should be taken with regards to educating our young. He exhorted all educators to derive inspiration from the Vedic system of education which not only focused on theoretical concepts but also taught the students life ways and engaged them in practical studies.Quoting example of the ancient higher-learning institutions like university of Taxila and Nalanda, he said that these institutions not only represent Indian sub continent’s rich history, but are a number of things that can be taken up from their education systems and adopted and added to our existing education systems.
Speaker further said that role of education is essential in strengthening the moral and life values among today’s youth.‘It is the need of the hour to talk about the quality culture in the education system, the ways to sustain them and convey it to our future generations. The students are the builders of a nation, therefore leadership qualities need to be developed in them and their energies need to be channelized in positive directions’ Speaker added.Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu, Professor, Ashok Aima also spoke on the occasion and stressed for making classrooms as a theatre of learning.
Former Vice Chancellor Aligarh Muslim University, Professor, Mehboob-ul-Rehman also shared his views about challenges faced in imbibing the values and ethics which should be present in the present education system.Principal GWC, Professor Kiran Bakshi, in her keynote address, reflected upon the theme of the seminar.Dignitaries among others who were present on the occasion included Principals from various colleges, scholars, staff and students of GWC.Later, Kavinder Gupta also inaugurated ‘Diwali Festival Mela 2016’ at Bahu Plaza. The mela is organized by Telecom Women Welfare Organization (TWWO) in collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.Among others Bindu Gupta, Chief General Manager, J&K circle, H.K. Verma and president TWWO, Gaytri Verma were also present on the occasion.
