Govt to convert Old Lower Court complex into heritage site: Abdul Haq

Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice, Abdul Haq, today said that the State Government is mulling to convert the old Lower Court complex at Court Road here into a heritage site.During his visit to the area, the Minister said that a team would be constituted that would assess the feasibility of converting the building into a heritage site. He said that the team would also assess how safe the building is, and would also provide the specifications required for renovating the building.Mr. Abdul Haq said that the team would also provide its suggestions for beautification of adjacent areas, and parking facility along with it.The Minister said culture and heritage play a crucial role in shaping the future of nations, adding that every possible step would be taken to maintain and preserve the State’s  rich heritage, and its culture.

The Minister was informed that the books and the other law documents that are still in the library of old Lower Court complex would be soon transferred to the new Court Complex in Mominabad.During his visit the Minister also assured Srinagar Municipality Corporation (SMC) officials that the Government would look into their demand of providing them some space for the construction of dewatering plant in the area so that the water congestion problem in the Lal Chowk area gets addressed. He said the Government is keen to make every possible effort to reduce inconveniences people face due to water logging caused by incessant rains in Lal Chowk and its surroundings. Registrar General High Court A. K. Koul, Law Secretary Abdul Majeed, Municipal Commissioner Bashir Ahmad Khan, and other concerned officers accompanied the Minister.
