State Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir accompanied by senior Party functionaries and Legislators called on Governor N. N. Vora on Monday and briefed him about socio political situation arising in the backdrop of the valley unrest for last four months.PCC Chief apprised him about the human losses and the losses caused Trade, Tourism, Transport, Education, Industries and other business communities due to the volatile situation in the Valley. He also briefed His excellency about the failure of the PDP BJP Coalition to deal with the situation, as a result, the situation remains horrifying and complex.Congress delegations also apprised State Governor about ‘wrong’ policies of the PDP BJP coalition with regard to wellbeing of the peolple in all the three regions and sought his intervention to address the concerns of the people. On this occasion PCC Chief submitted a detailed memorandum to Governor and sought his influence to resolve the issues confronting people in all the three regions.Later Mir addressed press conference and briefed the Media about their meeting with the Governo. While talking to reporters Mir expressed his serious concern over death and destruction in the Valley saying that Govt has miserably failed to restore normalcy in the Valley from day one, for the fact, it has not been able to deal with the situations in a procedural manner. The situation would have been normal, if the loss of lives in the backdrop of the protests could have been prevented, he said.

PCC Chief said Congress party invited the attention of His Excellency towards the losses caused to Trade, Education, Business Community, Horticulture, Tourism, Transport and Infrastructure due to the continuous deteriorating situation, and told him (Governor) that that Govt has not been able to restore calm as yet, besides the provocative Statements from State Govt especially by the Chief Minister, from time to time, has alienated the people to a largest extent, he said.It is a matter of grave concern that people in the valley feel highly alienated over the way they are being dealt by the State Govt, as a result, the common masses across the valley have lost faith in a democratic system. While as the need of the hour was to take corrective measures to ensure that valley unrest comes to an end and losses prevented, but due to certain wrong policies on the part of State Govt, the situation is still out of control, which is a cause behind our concern and worry, PCC Chief said.He said Congress party understand that present upsurge is the outcome of the betrayal with the people by PDP BJP coalition, as the people of the State were promised a lot by the PDP BJP during their Elections, such as revocation of AFSPA, demilitarization, return of power projects etc etc, but so far not even a single promise was fulfilled, besides the subsequent U Turns taken by the Govt, from time to time, have left the common masses disheartened and dejected. He said Congress Party as a responsible & constructive opposition extended every help to Govt to restore calm, but our suggestions were not taken seriously by the Govt and whatever decision were taken by the Govt were unilateral, even serious efforts were made by the Govt to silence the opposition to hide it’s failures., he added.Referring to the dialogue process, PCC Chief said that Congress Party is of the firm opinion that the Central Govt without wasting further time should initiate a credible and meaningful dialogue with the stakeholders to address the unrest in the State. He said Congress Party appreciates the employment opportunities to unemployed youth in the State, but we wonder how the drive was started when there were no facilities available such as communication Transport etc and we understand that this is something like adjusting people in Govt departments on partisan basis. He said Congress placed its demand before his Excellency  that  Govt be directed to ensure transparency, while adjusting the unemployed youth in Govt Departments.

Describing the arrest spree, nocturnal raids and slapping of innumerable PSAs as unfortunate, PCC Chief said that Congress Party believes such type of actions or harassment on the part of State Govt shall never be in the interest of peace, rather it will vitiate the atmosphere further, in this connection Congress Party sought  indulgence of His Excellency to put an end to the harassment to the people, as that will only help create peaceful atmosphere and restore calm in the valley, G.A. Mir said.He said during the discussion with His Excellency, Congress party also sought indulgence  of Governor to put an end to the harassment of Govt employees, who are being targeted by the State Govt without conducting any enquiry, whileas they have also been braving the brunt of unrest. PCC Chief said that Govt is harassing employees to hide its failures.Mir said that the termination of Employees is very unfortunate, unacceptable and we urged upon His Excellency to use his good office to stop such type of repressive measure of the State and get the termination/suspension of Employees revoked. He said Congress Party is committed to extend every help to restore normalcy in the Valle, but at the sametime, it will not remain as silent spectators to the agony and anguish of the people. Congress Party will continue to remain steadfast in highlighting the genuine concerns of the people for their resolution.PCC Chief said that Congress Delegation also discussed with His Excellency the ration issue in the State and urged upon the Governor to use his good office to ensure adequate supply of ration i.e 50 Kgs to every house hold in the State and demanded that the decrease in scale of ration should be revisited, Govt must be advised to ensure additional quota of ration.
