EDI encounter ended after 56 hours

With the killing of two militants, a three-day long encounter that raged between forces and militants in Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district ended on Wednesday, army said.According to Srinagar based defense spokesperson, Colonial Rajesh Kalia, “Two militants who had taken shelter in EDI building were killed while two rifles were also recovered from the encounter site.”Kalia told KNS that they recovered two militant bodies and are ascertaining the identity of two militants killed in an encounter. He said that the search operation is still ongoing.Notably, the ‘encounter’ started at around 6 am in the morning on October 10 and was closed after almost 56 hours.It was second such gun battle which rattled the EDI premises on Srinagar-Jammu highway at Pampore.In February 2016, the encounter lasted for 48 hours which resulted in the death of an EDI staffer, three army men and three suspected militants.Two top floors of front building in EDI premises were destroyed and they were under reconstruction.
