District Development Commissioner Udhampur Niraj Kumar today reviewed the functioning of health Department here at meeting District Health Society.The meeting was attended district, block officers of the Health department, besides ASHA Mentoring and Monitoring Group. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer to strengthen various sub-centers in the district so that the people of the district, especially residing in hilly and far-flung areas, can get access to health services. He further asked the CMO to organise training programmes for imparting necessary training to the ANMs.Underlining the important role played by the ASHAs, he said that the need of the hour is to motivate these activists so that they can further promote institutional deliveries in the rural areas. Describing them as the backbone of the NHM scheme, he said they act as the first port of call for any health related demands of rural population, especially women and children, who find it difficult to access health services.
Besides, he also asked the ICDS and Education department to work in close coordination with the Health department to ensure effective implementation of various health and hygiene related schemes of their respective departments. He stressed upon them to observe Village Health and Nutrition Day (VHND) and Immunization Day on regular basis. He stressed on creating mass awareness regarding balanced diet and immunization.The Chief Medical Officer gave a brief of physical and financial achievements under various schemes of the health department.Later, the DDC also visited the District Hospital and inquired the well-being of the Barmeen road accident victims Joint Director Planning, Rakesh Jamwal, Programme Manager ASHA functionality, State Health Society Dr. Jatinder Mehta, Ex-En PWD, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and various district officers besides BMOS were present in the meeting.
