Life was affected in Kashmir Valley for the 87th consecutive day even though according to officials there were no curbs and curfew imposed in and part of the Valley. Shops, educational institutions and business establishments remained shut. A greater movement of private transport was seen in some areas of Srinagar city, however, there was no such movement in the areas falling in the outskirts of city. Large number of vendors was seen occupying the pavements and roadsides in different parts of city including Polo View, Batamaloo, Hari Singh High Street and Jahangir Chowk. However, life in downtown city and other parts of the Valley, including district headquarters and towns, remained affected due to the shutdown call of the separatists.A young man who was injured in an accident during clashes in Narbal area of central Kahsmir’s Budgam district on Sep 23 died today at SKIMS Soura. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Yousuf Khandey son of Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Gagarpora Narbal.
Khandey, according to his relatives, was injured after a motorcycle he was riding collided with a barricade during clashes in Kawoosa area. “He was riding the bike along with his father when the bike fell down and hit a barricade,” said Omar Fayaz, his cousin.A police official told CNS that three persons had suffered injuries during that day and they had filed a formal case against the miscreants.The locals from Adabal Nikas Pulwama in South Kashmir alleged that government forces ransacked the houses and damaged property without any provocation. They said when people protested against highhandedness of forces, they retaliated with tear-smoke shelling. The locals further said that the government forces arrested five boys from their orchards who had gone there to pick apples from trees. Similar types of allegations were leveled by people in Rajpora Pulwama.In Rohmu Pulwama large number of students staged anti-government protest. They claimed that the students will not appear in the examinations scheduled to be conducted in later this month.During evening hours clashes broke out in Kanikadal and Chotabazar area of Srinagar city. Groups of youth pelted stones on deployed forces who retaliated with tear-smoke shells.A police official said that situation remained peaceful throughout Valley.
