District level review committee meeting of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was held here today with M. S. Rather Hony General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch in the chair.Dinesh Gupta, Hony Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region and the District Secretaries of Red Cross Branch of Jammu Region attended the meeting. The meeting discussed the present situation where inhabitants of large number of villages on border areas have temporarily been evacuated and adjusted in make shift structures in safer areas.It was revealed in the meeting that the Regional Red Cross Society has planned a programme for conducting first aid training of the concerned villagers so that they are able to help themselves in case of any eventuality. Besides, the District Secretaries are also in the process of procuring the relief material required for the affected people.
It was also revealed in the meeting that the Regional Red Cross has paid an amount of Rs 18 Lakh as medical support and other financial assistance to poor/ needy persons. Apart from, the Society held 16 Blood Donation Camps in collaboration with Sant Nirankari Mandal, Amar Ujalla Foundation and concerned Blood Banks during the current.Similarly, around 641 Commercial vehicle Drivers, conductors and general masses in addition to 140 employees of different departments and Red Cross Volunteers of five districts of Jammu region have been imparted First Aid Training under FA/FMR programme imparted. Likewise Child Line under the aegis of Indian Red Cross Society was instrumental in tracing and getting admitted 123 Children from within and outside the State in various Homes. 174 children of Slum area were got admitted in Govt. Schools and all kind of support, material and financial assistance was provided to them by the society.
