Day 83, shutdown continues in Kashmir

Shutdown continued on 83rd straight day in Kashmir while minor clashes were reported in a few Srinagar areas during the day.Meanwhile, all the educational institutes, main markets, public transport and other businesses were suspended across the Valley.However, the uptown areas of summer capital including the business hub Lal Chowk, Raj Bagh, Jawahar Nagar, Dalgate and others continued to witness a considerable movement of private transports today.Meanwhile, Clashes were reported in Noor Bagh area of Srinagar today during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the agitating youth. “Clashes were ongoing till late evening,” local sources said.They said that on Wednesday late evening forces thrashed scores of people who were travelling through the Noor Bagh to Cement Kadal raod. “Whosoever passed through the way, forces beat them,” they said.Meanwhile, reports of minor clashes were reported from Habba Kadal area.Witnesses said clashes broke out between youth and forces in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the youth.According to KNS correspondent, minor clashes were reported in Kani Kadal, Chota Bazar area of Srinagar during which scores of tear gas shells were disbursed by the forces to disperse the agitating youth.

Meanwhile minor clashes were also reported from several other areas during the day.

Meanwhile a complete shutdown was observed in South, central and north Kashmir throughout the day.All the shops, educational institutes, business establishments and other establishments remained closed during the day.Reports said that following the improvement in situation, curfew was today lifted after four days from Kishtwar district of Jammu.

However, reports quoting officials said that night curfew would remain in place as a preventive measure.Curfew was imposed on Sunday after clashes erupted against the arrest of three persons, including two Imams, for their alleged role in “anti-national” sloganeering on Eid-ul-Adha. Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, the situation across the valley remained by and large peaceful today. “There was no untoward incident reported from any part of the valley,” it said.According to the statement, during the day large number of vehicles was seen plying on city roads as well main towns and on the inter-district roads.“During the past 24 hours, police arrested 73 such individuals who were involved in causing disturbances by harassing shopkeepers, creating disruptions in traffic movement by placing obstructions on roads and lanes, besides involved in damaging public/private property in different parts of the valley,” the statement said.Meanwhile, according to the statement situation in the Jammu region remained by and large peaceful. “District Administration Jammu announced relaxation in curfew from today 700 hours to 1900 hours in the Kishtwar town,” it said.
