The chairperson of J&K state commission for women Nayeema Ahmed Mehjoor today organized one day awareness cum interactive session for women here at Govt Degree College Poonch.District Development Commissioner Poonch Mr. Mohammad Harun Mailk, Secretary for women commission Ajaz Abdullah, district officers besides a mammoth gathering of ANGWS workers, Asha Workers and college girl students attended the programme. The main objective of holding this programme in this hilly backward district was to create awareness among the women about their rights and educate them about various central and state sponsored schemes launched to uplift women folk.The speakers threw light on the issues faced by the women at various levels. They pitched for equal rights for women in all walks of life and called for change in social mindset viz-a-viz woman “Now time has come to root out all orthodox, stereotype, social obligations which comes in the way of women empowerment” they asserted.Speaking on the occasion, Nayeema Ahmed Mehjoor said the basic purpose of organizing such program is to aware women about their rights and equip them with the knowledge about how to safeguard the same. She further said that the women commission will soon launch a mass campaign to educate public about the rights provided to women under state and central laws.
