To augment potable water supply in the rural areas, as many as 1963 Water Supply Schemes (WSS) have been taken up in Kashmir under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP).Giving details of the augmentation programme, Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir, Mr G M Bhat said that out of the 1963 schemes, 1180 have been completed, while work is in progress on rest of the schemes.The Chief Engineer said out of the total allocated funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore for ongoing schemes for the current fiscal, Rs 49. 25 crore stand released so far, besides additional funds to the tune of Rs 32 crore have been earmarked to complete the ongoing projects under NRDWP. He said that the Central Government has also agreed to release more funds for the completion of the ongoing schemes under NRDWP.He said the PHE department has also established a Control Room in Srinagar which is functioning round-the-clock to address the public grievances with regard to drinking water supply. Appreciating the officers and officials of the department, the Chief engineer said that despite disturbances in Kashmir, the officers and officials of the Department remain present in their respective offices round-the-clock to ensure uninterrupted water supply to people.
