Condemning the pasting of racist posters in University of Alberta in Canada, State Convenor of NRI Cell of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jagtar Singh Sanghera today said it is shameful for the Canadian citizen to make such derogatory comments against Sikh Community. Sanghera, who is also member of the AAP’s State Campaign Committee, stated that these posters show image of a Man in turban with the racist message which asks Sikhs to go back to their home country, which is highly deplorable and condemnable. “Sikhs have already proved their mettle in building the economy of Canada, which was even recognised by the consecutive governments of the country too”, Sanghera said while praising the authorities of University, which quickly removed these racist posters. It is pertinent to mention here that as many as twelve such identical posters were found on the campus Monday, including one at the university’s main library. “Sikhs are an integral part of the Canadian fabric as many turbaned Sikhs serve Canada in the federal cabinet, armed forces and many other capacities,” Sanghera said revealing that according to the 2011 census, there are some 455,000 Sikhs in Canada.
Meanwhile Sanghera hailed bravery and humbleness of Sikh Gentleman Harinder Singh Bains, who helped the US Police to nab a dreaded criminal, Ahmad Khan Rashmi.Bravery & honesty of the Bains (A Sikh) could be gauged from the fact that he dared to honour his Oath of Citizenship to protect & defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic, Sanghera said. Reacting on the statement of former premier of British Columbia, Ujjal Dosanjh, who claimed that support to AAP among NRIs has declined, Sanghera said “this may be personal views Dosanjah, who somehow failed to assess the mood of NRIs”. “As the Head of NRI Cell, almost daily I receive thousands of calls from our NRI brothers and sisters to pledge their support to AAP to throw out the corrupt regime of Akalis,”, Sanghera said. “Dosanjh's ancestral village is very near to my village and he may have limited information about certain aspects about AAP”, Sanghera said adding that very strong leadership of AAP has already emerged in Punjab to carry forward revolutionary political movement of its National Convener Arvind Kejriwal. “Punjabi and Gujarati NRIs worldwide have posed big hopes on AAP and the party is all set to fulfil such hopes by forming governments not only in Punjab, but in Gujarat too”, Sanghera said.
