Foundation of the Kanpur Metro Rail project would be laid on October 4, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced on Saturday.Addressing a press conference here at his official residence, he said that the Samajwadi Party (SP) government in the state was focussed on development and that it had rung in all-round progress in the state.Stressing on the need of these works being taken to the people, he added this would enable the people in rural areas and villages to take the benefits of these developmental projects and public welfare schemes.The Chief Minister said that projects like the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and the Lucknow Metro have strengthened and developed the infrastructure in the state.While on one hand while the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, would enable fast traffic movement and ease of commuting for people and on the other hand, it will benefit the farmers, artisans, traders and working people in the vicinity to improve their living standards and economic status, he added.The Expressway, he pointed out would prove to be a milestone for the economy of the state. Akhilesh Yadav also said that the state government had fulfilled all promises made in the manifesto and added that though Metro Rail projects for Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Allahabad, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Samajwadi Pension Scheme were not part of the election manifesto, they have also been executed for the welfare and development of the state. 

For prosperity of farmers in the state, the state government is trying to get food processing units also established in the state. He pointed how the state was first in the country in milk production and stated that due to conducive atmosphere in the state, as also because of the huge market, many big names of industry like the HCL and Amul had opened shop in the state.He also announced that products of famous dairy brand 'Parag' would soon be available at big stores. Akhilesh Yadav underlined how to tackle the unemployment issue in the state, his government had opened many new vistas of employment but added that more needed to be done in this regard.Referring to the large scale damage to the farmers of the statue due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm, the Chief Minister said that despite the non-cooperation by the union government, the state government, through its own resources had distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore. Other than this, he informed Rs 2,000 crore have been additionally allocated in this years supplementary budget to provide relief to the remaining farmers.
