The Assam Minister for Finance, Education and Health, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and discussed with him wide range of issues relating to various development projects and other initiatives in the State.Dr Jitendra Singh brought to the notice of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma some of the important development projects which had got delayed due to various reasons over the last few years and expressed the hope that with the new Government in place, things will start moving on fast-track. He also congratulated Dr Sarma for the prompt ratification of the GST Bill by the Assam Legislative Assembly and said that this will pave the way for Assam to reap the harvest of several progressive initiatives undertaken by the Government. 

Referring to some of the recent decisions in the health sector, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai, had from this year, introduced super-specialty cancer courses in DM (Oncology) and MCh (Oncology) in Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati. He also mentioned the pending proposal for setting up of 'Brahmaputra Study Centre' by the Ministry of DoNER in Guwahati University.The pending work on various road projects had also been expedited, said Dr Jitendra Singh, and added that several new institutions have been set up during the last two years.Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed satisfaction over the special attention being received by the North Eastern states under the current Government and the close coordination being maintained by the Ministry of DoNER with the State Administration in Assam. He said that within a few months of taking over, the present government of Assam has conceived a number of innovative projects, which it is determined to push forward on fast-track.Dr Sarma invited Dr Jitendra Singh for a review meeting with the Assam State administration at Guwahati, in response to which, it was agreed upon that such a meeting could be held next month at which the progress of various ongoing projects could be reviewed and status of new projects could be assessed. It was also decided that the office of the Resident Commissioner of Assam based in New Delhi will maintain a regular liaison with DoNER Ministry for regular and expeditious follow up.
