Condemning the desecration of Masjids, Mardasas, Darasgahs and Islamic centres by government forces, Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (JKMMU) chief, Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, who has been under continuous house arrest for the past 49 days and stopped from performing religious, political and social duties, Friday said the government was targeting religious places of Kashmiri Muslims under a well-planned conspiracy.In a statement issued to the press, the APHC Chairman said the rising number of attacks on Masjids and Madrasas across Kashmir was of a cause of concern as the government forces were threatening and targeting the Imams, Ulemas, Madrasa teachers and students.
Terming the desecration of Madrasa ‘Babul Aloom’ which is run by its Rector, Mufti Sajad Ahmad Qasmi, at Natipora Srinagar, by the Indian police and forces as unfortunate, the Mirwaiz said government had declared a war on religious places by attacking them.He said people had sacrificed their lives and properties for attaining their right to self determination and now their religious places like Masjids, Khanqahs, shrines and Imam Barahs were being targeted, which was unfortunate and intolerable.Meanwhile, Jamia Masjid, Srinagar Khateeb and Imam, Moulana Ahmad Syed Naqshbandi said stopping people from offering Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar for seven consecutive weeks by imposing strict curfew, severe restrictions and curbs was painful for the Muslims and a challenge to their religious honour and that power drunk ruling class would have to pay for trampling the rights of the people.
