A workshop on ‘Digital India’ programme was today organised at University of Jammu by National e-Governance Division (NeGD) in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS) University of Jammu.NSS Volunteers from various colleges of Jammu attended the workshop.This workshop is part of NeGD collaborative with NSS under which workshops are being organized in 100 universities across India.The main objective of the workshop is to connect the Indian Youth with the Digital India products and services and to create a pool of ambassadors/volunteers to spread the vision of Digital India Programme among academia and communities.Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh while interacting with the participants stressed on the need for everybody to engage, educate and empower themselves with the Digital India programme.To achieve the goal of Digital India mission, DC office has been transformed into a fully digitized establishment that had ensured transparency, efficiency and effective working, he informed.DC urged the participants to reach out to the community and educate them as to how they can associate and empower themselves by digitization. 

The transparency brought on by the Digital India not only benefits an individual but the society as whole, he added.The Digital India programme is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.The programme focuses on creation of digital infrastructure, digital literacy and delivering services digitally all over the country. It aims to ensure the broadband highways, universal access to mobile phones, facilitate people with high speed internet, bring e-Governance by reforming government through digitization, bring e-Kranti through electronic delivery of services, make available online information for all and ensure more IT jobs.During the workshop, various intellectual discussions were held on Digital India campaign, its implementation, application, uses etc. Further, idea generation sessions were also held in addition to contests like skit competition, poster designing and quiz about DI products.Dean Academic Affairs University of Jammu Prof Poonam Dhawan, NeGD senior consultant Branali Mukherjee, SeMT consultant Shaila Farooq along with their teams, NSS project coordinators, volunteers and students participated in the workshop.
